Creative Strengths: One Strength of mine is being creative on my instrument. I have a good understanding ofkeys and wide variety of chords to use in my songs I can also be quite versatile for genreson my instrument. Creativity on your instrument is something I really strive to have in myplaying because I can be quite versatile with musical styles and rhythm playing and leadplaying, I also was willing to work on some of my weaker techniques in this project. I thinkthis was mostly seen in our original because it's not my usual style of music and one of myweaker techniques is arpeggios, Another one of my creative aspects is I'm open and adaptable to new ideas and genres.I'm up for a new challenge of possibly genre flipping or trying new techniques in songs nomatter how hard. I think adaptability is great to have as a musician because if youradaptable you're more likely to get more jobs in your place of work and you're more likelyto be more popular on your instrument. This was most prominent in to be human bymarina as we flipped the genre completely to a piano piece to a rock set up.
Professional Strengths: One of my professional strengths is that I'm good at taking leadership roles. I'm good atkeeping control and balance between the group to make sure we make as much progressas possible. This is an important strength to have because it can also help you outside totake control on your job to keep everyone organised. This was evident in the creativeprocess of our original song.Another professional strength is my communication. I'm good at communicating my ideasclearly and well and I'm also good at speaking in a professional manor to my band.Communication is good to have inside and outside of college life as it can get you furtherin things such as your career and life. This was most evident in our original incommunicating my vision for the song.
Evaluation
Creative Areas for Development: One creative area for development for me was my lead guitar. I think I need a greaterunderstand on of stylistic solos for genres and how to make a solo cater better to thegenre of song you are playing. Being good at this can make you more selectable forsession musician work for different types of genres. this was most evident in the marinasong as I had a solo that was eventually scrapped for being too Britpop for the genre. Inthe future I will develop my lead work further by exploring how to cater to other styles ofmusic.Another creative area for development was the middle section for black or white. I think we needed a greater understanding of triplet timing on this section and we needed to develop our tapping skills to achieve the original sound of this song because it felt abit empty with a string scrape. Having more useful skill sets can help songs become a lot more smooth sailing throughout the projects and can help you comfortably achieve perfection of the songs a lot quicker. In future terms I will be sure to practice the songs a lot more to stay consistent
Professional Areas for Development: One professional area for development was consistency. Throughout the term I lacked alot of consistency in completion of homework and practice of the songs which meant myschedule became even more built up due to my bad habits of not also committing tothese things at home or throughout the course. It’s good to keep on top of things as thenyou aren’t stressing out about handing assigned work in late and unfinished. In futureterms I will be cautious about making sure coursework is done straight away to make mylife a lot easierAnother professional area to work on is my patience within sessions. Once or twicethroughout the term I let me temper get to me mentally and I was thrown of by it andtook it out on Mia which I know now I shouldn’t have done as it wasn’t right of me andwas a major set back to the bands progress. Keep a level head is always better as sessionwill feel less heated and more smooth sailing as your all in the same frain on mind. Infuture I will try and stay level grounded to prevent set backs in my groups.
What Went Well Creatively: One thing that went well creatively this term was our song writing. This worked well as itonly took us an hour to write and structure our song as a group and we all had our ownunique contribution to the song, so it was a full band collaboration. It’s always good tohave flow in song writing as a group as the whole band will be a lot happier with the endresult no matter what. this was evident as it only took us an hour to writeAnother thing that worked well was the vocals. This worked well as we had two singerswho’s worked really well together and they knew how to work around each other withvocal harmonies and bass lines in singing and I also think the combination of Mia’s morepowerful rockier vocals and Eva’s more soft pop vocals cater really well to our songs.having two singers who work well together in this manor is always good as yoursingers can make the worst of situations sound better due to knowing how to workaround each other. This was evident in the harmonies on our original song in the quietsection.
What Went Well Professionally: One thing that worked well professionally was our adaptability. This worked well as wewas all capable of playing the songs no matter how many changes we made to the songand this was most evident in to be human by marina due to use changing it from a sadsong to a rock song. This is always good to have in any aspect of your life as you will getthrough things a lot easier if your easily adaptable to a situation.Another thing that worked well was our communication of ideas. This worked as we tried to work around our own incapabilities and our band members incapabilities in our songs by making it a lot easier to play around so everyone felt comfortable playing our songs as a group. This is always good to have in any aspect of life because if anyone is having trouble you can help them find ways to make there life easier and work around it.
What Did Not Work Well Creatively: One thing that didn’t work creatively was our choreography. This didn’t work because onstage we wasn’t really communicating or moving about due to not being into the songswe was playing and also our set list being very low energy most of the time.its alwaysimportant to have energy in your set so the crowd enjoys the fact that your enjoyingyourself. In future we will make choreography to fit around our set list no matter whatthe energy.Another thing that didn’t work creatively was the marina song. This didn’t work becausenone of our group liked or enjoyed playing the song no matter how hard we tried to makeit enjoyable to play it just wasn’t fun at all and it was a boring song in our opinion. Weknow it’s always better to look like your enjoying yourself so you believe that your havingfun so in the future we will make it seem a lot funner to play
What Did Not Work Well Professionally: One thing that didn’t work professionally was arguments. In the sessions we clashed a lotas a group as we all had different ideas for what do with the songs which led to tensionsbetween the group which got really annoying at times for everyone and it caused a lot ofset backs in the group. This is not something you want because the last thing your groupneeds is to be stressing out over a heated discussion over one part of a song because italso brings set backs to the group. In the future we will try and be more level headed andgrounded with each other in the sessions.Another thing that didn’t work professionally was we got very side tracked. In thesessions we would get constantly side tracked and jam songs that weren’t required to beplayed at all so we would lose focus and have less time to improve on our 3 songs weactually needed to improve upon so we most likely didn’t have them as good as we could. This is something you don’t want as you don’t want to get to your performance andstruggle to keep your set perfect and have a terrible sound on the day. In the future wewill try to maintain focus to keep our creative flow going for more consistentperformances of the songs.
